The Rappers: Master P and Lil'
Romeo
The Show:"Romeo!"
Yo, What's the Dilly-O? Life imitates art,
because this sitcom cast Romeo as the leader of a band and his
real-life pop, Master P, played his record-producing father.
Did It Have the Skills to Pay the Bills? That
O.G. SpongeBob SquarePants not withstanding,
no show on Nickelodeon has ever had street
cred.

The Rapper: Flavor
Flav
The Shows: "Strange Love," "Flavor
of Love," "The Surreal
Life"
Yo, What's the Dilly-O? After
hooking up with her on "The Surreal Life," Flavor Flav did a
reality show about dating Brigitte Nielsen. This
went so well that she ran off and married some bartender, while Flav
tried to find love on the romantic game show "Flavor of
Love."
Did It Have the Skills to Pay the
Bills? No, because seeing him with Nielsen just skeeved us
out, while "Flavor" makes us wish he'd go back to fighting the
power. | |

The Rappers: MC Hammer, Vanilla Ice, Flavor Flav, Da Brat, Sandy "Pepa" Denton and,
in the upcoming eighth season, Bushwick Bill
The
Show: "The Surreal
Life"
Yo, What's the Dilly-O? Washed-up
has-beens and reality show never-wases live in a big house together
and agree to have their lives taped so we can see what happens when
washed-up has-beens and reality show never-wases live in a big house
together.
Did It Have the Skills to Pay the
Bills? Sorry, but living in a gaudy Hollywood mansion with
Corey Feldman, Trishelle
from "The Real World," Dave Coulier, Joanie "Chyna" Laurer,
Jose Canseco and that guy who was married to Britney Spears for two
days, respectfully, does not count as
street.

 |
The Rapper: MC
Lyte
The Show: "Half & Half"
Yo, What's the Dilly-O? Though the show was
about half-sisters and polar opposites Dee Dee (Essence Atkins) and Mona
(Rachel True) trying to
get along, they still found time for Lyte to play Mona's
boss.
Did It Have the Skills to Pay the
Bills? Yes, since not only was the show a lot funnier than
anyone gave it credit for, but also because Lyte's character wasn't
the one-dimensional bad boss of most
sitcoms. | |
 |
The Rapper: Brian Austin
Green
The Show: "Beverly Hills, 90210"
Yo,
What's the Dilly-O? We're not sure if he actually ever
rapped on the show (we stopped watching after Brenda left), but in
1996, while he was still there, Green recorded a rap album called
"One Stop Carnival."
Did It Have the Skills to
Pay the Bills? No, because it prompted one critic to
declare him, "the poor man's Vanilla Ice." Which is a
real insult ... to Vanilla Ice.
| |
 |
The Rapper: Queen
Latifah
The Shows: "Living Single," "The Queen Latifah
Show"
Yo, What's the Dilly-O? One of rap's
first and fiercest female emcees went from a sitcom about four
friends to an Oprah-esque talk
show.
Did It Have the Skills to Pay the
Bills? Sort of, because these two shows weren't all that
bad, but weren't all that necessary,
either. | |
